First day in Japan (aka The Long Walk)

Pictures from our first day in Japan. We started in the morning with the intention of getting a lot of things done according to the checklist that was sent to us. We walked in the rain for a total of 8 miles. The last placed we stopped, we finally found someone who could help us out and to let us know, that we can't even start on the checklist until we go to training and get put into the system. Would have been helpful to have know that before The Long Walk. But everyone enjoyed our tour of the base. By the way, the last place we were sent to and found out all the info was less than a half mile from where we started. In the vein of staying positive - that's about all I have to say about that.

This is Macie's "bedroom" for the next few weeks.

The license plates for all cars on base.

Mona was fascinated by how different
the vending machines are. Even on base, some machines only take Yen (that is dollars to you and me).

The beginning of The Long Walk.
As we are leaving the Naval Lodge.
We now live in a Tsunami zone.
Macie and I in front of the Shiloh - a missle
cruiser. (side note - I think Mona has been taking
photography lessons from my mom).
Macie posing at Chili's with an aircraft
carrier in the back ground.
The Chili's greeting from
Yokosuka, Japan.

The menu at Chili's. Mona loved the Japanese
writing (a mixture of Kanji - derived from Chinese
symbols and Kana - Japanese symbols).

At the end of the day, we got to spend
time with Zach (Macie's brother who
also has just been assigned to Japan).

  1. Haha that is funny about the walk. It's so cool seeing all of your pictures. We saw Andrea on Tuesday (the girls and I go over to gmas for dinner every Tuesday) and the girls were so happy to see her. They thought it meant you guys were still here. Everyone is doing well here and we are all excited for you guys. I am trying to convince my mom to use her miles for all of us to come see yall! ;) hahaha We'll see. Love yall!

Oh, funny story. I made my first fire the other night. I had the night alone and thought I would make a pallet in the living room. I turned off all the lights so only the Christmas Tree and the fire were lighting the apt. I sat down to eat my chicken fried rice and start a movie, annnnd the fire alarm started going off! I get up to go fan away the smoke to turn it off. Well, when I turn around to go sit back down I realize my entire apartment was filled with smoke! I start panicking, Porsha is crying from the fire alarm hurting her ears, I am throwing water on the fire to put it out, open up all the doors, and then the other fire alarm started going off. (I didn't even know I had more than one fire alarm! LOL) There was so much smoke in the apt my eyes were burning like crazy! So after I settle down and the house is airing out, my mom calls. I tell her the story saying "I guess my fireplace is just for show. All the smoke just kept coming into the apartment." My mom, laughing hysterically at me, asks if I opened the flue. "What the heck is that?" So yes, another adventure of Wynter living on her own for the first time.

I made another fire that night... with the flue open. :)

    1. So you thought you had a facade fireplace, huh?? Men are supposed to be the ones that take a while to . . . get there. I'm glad you didn't have scarring on your lungs because you didn't flip the flippin flue

  2. Hey Wynter, we loved your story about the fireplace - sounds like something I would have done. Mona empathized saying if you have never been around a fireplace, you wouldn't know about the flue. I hate the girls thought we might still be there - tell them we love them and we will see them soon through the computer (we will skype y'all when we get a phone.....might be a few days). I am glad that you are spending time on a regular basis with mom - it is good for all of you. Everyone sends their love. Rusty
